This September, we held our Charity Walk event to celebrate raising $486.10 to donate to the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention. The Charity Walk is a yearly event held to celebrate Change Matters, a week of fundraising through which students compete by DST to raise money for charity.
At this year’s Charity Walk, the entire school walked together to Jackson Park, where the students played various sports and competed against each other in the DST Olympics, which included a blind obstacle course, hula hoop pass, water balloon toss, and rock paper scissors tournament. Ultimately, the 11th grade came up on top!
Change Matters and the Charity Walk is an important part of the Veritas school culture because it fosters empathy and compassion through connection with others, allowing both students and staff to understand and appreciate diverse perspectives and experiences. Engaging in charitable acts cultivates a sense of community and belonging, promoting social awareness and encouraging individuals to contribute positively to society. Great job, Thundercats!
