About Me
A proud Seeds of Health employee for over fifteen years, Chris Lehman works as a social studies teacher at Veritas High School.
Before joining Seeds of Health, he taught for one year at St. Charles, Inc, for four years at Loyola Academy (now Escuela Verde), and at the Sault Alternative School in Michigan. He brings his extensive experience and knowledge to his role at Veritas, a school he was drawn to due to its small size and community-oriented mission.
He holds a master’s degree in History from Marquette University, a bachelor’s degree in History from Northern Michigan University, and a teaching certificate from Lake Superior State University.
A Michigan transplant, Chris has now lived in Wisconsin for longer than he has lived in Michigan, and his wife and daughters are all Wisconsin natives. When not driving his children to swim practice, marching band, basketball, or NHS, Chris trains in the sport of Strongman and competes in local competitions. He also enjoys reading and watching media in the fantasy and sci-fi genres.
“My favorite part of teaching is the moment students get it. When you see them light up because they understand something that they were struggling with before, or they start to see the pattern behind seemingly disparate events, or even when they discover an interest in something they never would have sought out on their own. The "small-town" feel of Veritas makes this so much easier because you know the kids so well. It's hard for them to slip through the cracks because there aren't any cracks. Every kid has at least one staff member that they feel connected to, and the staff know most of the kids, even ones that aren't in their classes.
The culture at Veritas reflects this. There are always frustrations while teaching, but overall the kids are so polite, so generous, and so bought-in to the culture, that it's very rare that we have anything serious to deal with. This, along with the camaraderie and respect among the faculty and admin, make it a joy to come to work each day.”
